Resounding clang (鏗鏘: the first character has the fanqie 客 + 羹. The Book of Rites says: Zixia said, "The sound of the bell is kēngqiāng," which is a banging and striking sound. Kong [Anguo's] commentary on the Analects says: "Resoundingly, the sound of casting down a zither." The second character has the fanqie 鵲 + 良. The commentary to the Classic of Poetry says: "Qiāngqiāng is the sound of horse bits." The Shuowen jiezi states that the two characters 鏗鏘 both take 金 as semantic classifier, with 堅 and 將 as their respective phonetic components; the character 鑣 is pronounced with the fanqie 彼 + 苗).
