強扞（下寒旦反杜預注左傳云扞猶衛也又云蔽也說文被也從手干聲或從旱作捍）。

強扞 (the second character has the fanqie: 寒 + 旦 [hàn]). Du Yu's commentary on the Zuo zhuan says: 'Hàn is like to guard.' It also says: 'To shield.' The Shuowen says: 'To cover.' It takes 手 as radical and 干 as phonetic; it is also written with 旱 as 捍.
