Deeply obstructed (for the first [character 幽], y- + [y]ou [yōu]; the commentary to the Mao classic of Poetry says: “'You' means deep and distant.” It also says: “It means black.” The Erya says: “Border / boundary.” The Shuowen says: “'You' means concealed. It follows 𢆶 and follows 山 (mountain); it is a compound ideograph.” 𢆶 has the same sound. For the second [character 梗], g- + [x]ing [gěng]; Zhuangzi says: “'Geng' means obstructed.” The Shuowen says: “Mountain elm wood, which can be made into wuyi [seasoning]; it is also like straight. It follows 木 (wood) and has 更 as its phonetic.”).
