澆灒(上又作𣻏同古堯反說文澆灌漬也下又作濺𠵖二形同子旦反說文灒相汙灑也史記五步之內以血濺大王衣作濺楊泉物理論云恐不知味而唾𠵖江南行此音山東音湔子見反)。

Jiaocan (澆灒, the first character also written 𣻏, fanqie 古堯 [g/yao]). The Shuowen says: 'Jiao means to sprinkle and soak.' The second character is also written in the two forms 濺 and 𠵖, both with the fanqie 子旦 [z/dan]. The Shuowen says: 'Can means mutually splashing and soiling.' The Records of the Grand Historian says: 'Within five paces, blood will splash (濺) upon Your Majesty's robes,' written with 濺. Yang Quan's Wuli lun says: 'Fearing he did not know the flavour, he spat and splattered (𠵖).' South of the Yangtze this pronunciation is used; east of the mountains it is pronounced jian, with the fanqie 子見 [z/jian].
