Stammering and hindered (謇棘; the first character is jiǎn-yǎn fan [jiǎn]. Wang's commentary on the Zhouyi says: 'Jiǎn means difficult.' The Fangyan says: 'Jiǎn means stuttering, difficulty in speaking.' The second character is jīng-lì fan [jí]; jí indicates rough difficulty).
