嗚噎（上鄔姑反下煙結反尚書嗚呼嗟嘆辭也說文或從欠作歍毛詩傳曰噎謂憂不能息也方言云痛也說文並從口形聲字）。

嗚噎 [Sobbing and choking] (The first character has the fanqie wū + gū. The second character has the fanqie yān + jié. The *Shangshu* states: "'Alas' (嗚呼) is an exclamation of sighing." The *Shuowen* states: "It is also written with the 'yawn' radical 欠 as 歍." The commentary on the *Mao Shijing* states: "*Ye* means unable to catch one's breath due to grief." The *Fangyan* states: "Pain." The *Shuowen* has both characters formed with the 'mouth' radical as phono-semantic characters).
