忸怩（上尼六反下音尼賈注國語云忸怩慙顏也廣雅蹙踖也方言赧媿說文面慚也形聲字也）。

忸怩 [blushing with shame] (The first character is pronounced with the fanqie 尼六 [niù]; the second character is pronounced like 尼 [ní]. Jia [Kui]'s commentary on the Guoyu says: '忸怩 means a face showing shame.' The Guangya says: 'Restrained and fearful.' The Fangyan says: 'Blushing with shame.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'Ashamed in the face; it is a phono-semantic character').
