挫其銳（上祖過反鄭注周禮云挫折也說文摧也從手坐聲下悅歲反廣雅銳利也從金兌聲）。

挫其銳 [blunting one's sharpness] (The first character is pronounced with the fanqie 祖過 [cuò]. Zheng [Xuan]'s commentary on the Zhouli says: '挫 means to break.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'To snap; it derives from 手 [hand] with 坐 as phonetic.' The last character is pronounced with the fanqie 悅歲 [ruì]. The Guangya says: '銳 means sharp; it derives from 金 [metal] with 兌 as phonetic').
