扣玄機（上音口吼反注論語扣擊也廣雅持之說文從手口聲下既希反說文生發也從木機聲）。

扣玄機 (The upper character is pronounced with the fanqie 口吼 [kǒu]. The commentary to the Lunyu says: "扣 means to strike." The Guangya says: "To hold." The Shuowen says it takes 手 as radical and 口 as phonetic. The lower character is pronounced with the fanqie 既希 [jī]. The Shuowen says: "Arising and shooting forth; it takes 木 as radical and 機 as phonetic.")
