剜眼 (gouging out an eye: the first character is a fanqie of 烏 and 桓 [wān]; the Picang states: '剜 is like shaving or gouging.' The Guangya has the same meaning. The Picang states: 'The orthodox form has 刀 as 𠛠.' The Shuowen states: '𠛠 means to scoop out;' it has semantic 刀 and phonetic 夗, with 夗 pronounced wǎn; the transmitted text having 剜 is a vulgar character).
