邛僰 [Qióng-Bó]: The first character is read with the fanqie gong + gong (qióng). The Hanshu says that there was a Qiong County in Shu Commandery. The Shuowen jiezi says it is composed of the [semantic] radical 'district' (邑) and the sound gong (工). The second character is read with the fanqie peng + bei (bó). The Shenglei says: 'The Bo were a distinct branch of the Qiang.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'Sharp and quick; they were southern and western non-Chinese peoples. It is composed of the [semantic] radical 'person' (人) and the sound ji (棘).' Ji is pronounced jin + li; it is composed of two cì (朿) side by side, not shù (束).
