挾帚（上嫌莢反何休注公羊傳云挾猶懷也說文云挾持也從手夾聲下周柳反世本云少康作箕帚說文云帚除糞也從又持巾掃冂內會意字者也）。

挾帚 (the first character has the fanqie xian + jia [xié]; He Xiu's commentary on the Gongyang zhuan says: "挾 [xié] is like 懷 [huái, to hold in one's bosom]." The Shuowen says: "挾 [xié] means to hold; it has the hand radical and jia phonetic." The second character has the fanqie zhou + liu [zhǒu]; the Shiben says: "Shaokang invented the winnowing basket and broom." The Shuowen says: "帚 [zhǒu] means to clear away filth; it depicts holding a cloth with the right hand and sweeping inside an enclosure; it is an associative compound.")
