Martyring oneself for the world (殉: fanqie 旬俊 [xùn]. Chen Zan says: "Perishing oneself to pursue worldly things is called xùn." Ying Shao says: "To pursue." Kong [Anguo]'s commentary on the Shangshu says: "To seek." The Shuowen jiezi states: "Composed of 歺 ('remains') with 旬 phonetic; 歺 is pronounced 残 [cán]").
