Bereft widower (鰥絕) (The upper character has the fanqie 慣還 [guān]. Gu Yewang says: "An old man without a wife is called guan 鰥." Jia Kui's commentary on the Guoyu says: "Marrying past the proper season is called guan 鱞." The Shiming says: "It refers to being sorrowful and unable to sleep, eyes constantly wide open like a fish; hence the character takes 魚 'fish' as semantic, since fish never close their eyes when asleep." The Shuowen says: "It takes 魚 'fish' as semantic and an abbreviated 環 as phonetic." The collected edition has 䚪, which is an error).
