Broad learning (蒲黃 fanqie [páng]. Kong's commentary on the Shangshu says: 'Seeking it widely from all four directions.' The Shuowen says: 'Analyzed as from 丄 with 方 phonetic.' The collected edition writes it with the person radical as 仿, pronounced 芳往 fanqie, meaning 'vaguely resembling,' which is not the intended meaning here. 佛 is pronounced 符勿 fanqie).
