Did not examine (fúxǐng: fanqie 星 + 井 [xīng + jǐng]. The Book of Rites states: "Xǐng is like chā (to scrutinise)." The Shuowen jiezi states: "It takes a reduced form of 眉 (eyebrow) with 中 as its phonetic component." 省 is an ancient form. The collection writes it with the radical 心 as 惺; no such character is in the lexicons with this sense).
