Carrying an umbrella (yándēng: the second is fanqie 得 + 恒 [dé + héng]. Jia Kui's commentary on the Guoyu states: "A dēng is an implement for protection against rain." The Shiji yinyi states: "A dēng." The Kaosheng states: "Bamboo woven into a canopy." The Shuowen jiezi states: "A canopy to be raised. It takes the radical 竹 with 登 as its phonetic component").
