菴摩羅樹 (Sanskrit [āmrātaka / āmalaka]; the name of a fruit tree. It does not exist in this land. Old translations also called it ānbóluó or ānlóu tree; they are all the same. The Nirvāṇa-sūtra says: "Like the āmalaka tree, it changes three times a year: sometimes it produces flowers radiant and flourishing; sometimes it produces leaves lush and dense; sometimes it withers and drops its leaves like a dry tree." It also says: "Like the āmalaka tree, with many flowers but few fruits").
