Distrust and disloyalty (猜貳: the first character has the fanqie c[āng] + [l]ái; the Guangya says: "Cai (猜) means fear." Du's commentary on the Zuo zhuan says: "Cai means suspicion." The Fangyan says: "Resentment." It is a phono-semantic character with the dog radical. The second character has the sound of er (二); the Zuo zhuan says: "A minister dares not be disloyal (er)." Du's commentary says: "Er means disobeying orders." The Kaosheng says: "Also means suspicion; divided/two." It has the cowrie radical and the phonetic er (弍); 弍 is an ancient form of the character two (二)).
