Curtain interwoven with pearls (zhu jiaolu man): (mo + ban [màn]. The Shuowen says: "A man is an overhead canopy." It follows 'cloth' [jin] with man [曼] as phonetic. That at the sides is called a wei; that above is called a mu. Mu means to cover; to cover what is exposed. The 'jewel-interwoven exposed canopies' and 'jewel-interwoven exposed carriages' in various sūtras are the same thing. Some write 縵; the Shuowen says: "Plain patterned silk is called man." This is not the proper form of curtain [幔]; it will be explained again when encountered in the 'Treasure Stūpa Chapter').
