菡萏（上含感反下覃感反毛詩注云花未開者曰芙蓉已開者曰菡萏爾雅曰荷芙渠其花菡萏爾雅作菡萏字經文作菡蓞二字皆不成字也又作𧂄亦非）。

Lotus blossoms (菡萏) (The first [character] has the fanqie hán + gǎn [hàn]. The second has the fanqie tán + gǎn [dàn]. The commentary on the Mao Shijing states: 'When the flower has not yet opened it is called fúróng; when already opened it is called hàndàn.' The Erya states: 'The lotus is the fúqú; its blossoms are hàndàn.' The Erya writes it with the characters 菡萏. In the sūtra text it is written as 菡蓞, neither of which forms a proper character. It is also written as 𧂄, which is likewise incorrect).
