Binbin 彬彬 (Pronounced with the fanqie phonetic spelling [b- + -īn > b-] bǐ zhōng 反. The Lunyu says: "Only when cultural refinement and basic substance are properly balanced (binbin 彬彬) is one a gentleman." Bao Xian's commentary says: "Binbin is the appearance of cultural refinement and basic substance being equal halves").
