刁斗（上鳥聊反下當口反孟康漢書云以銅為之受一斗晝炊飲食夜擊警眾持行隨軍也今改為金鉦是古今正字云斗有柄並象形字也）。

Army cooking-pot / gong (刁斗: the first character is [pronounced with the fanqie] niao + liao; the second character is [pronounced with the fanqie] dang + kou; Meng Kang's Hanshu commentary says: "It is made of bronze and holds one dou; by day it is used for cooking food, and by night it is beaten to alert the troops, being carried along with the army"; nowadays it has been changed into the metal zheng gong; the Gujin zhengzi says that dou has a handle, both being pictographic characters).
