Secretly slandering (密譖: the second character is [pronounced with the fanqie] ce + chen; the Shuowen says it means "to defame"; the character books say it means "to slander"; the Lunyu says: "Slander that soaks in gradually"; the character is formed from words [言] with can as phonetic; can is pronounced qian; the transmitted text originally has 譖, which is a vulgar character and not the standard form).
