典謨（上多殄反爾雅云典常也虞書將遜位於虞舜作堯典孔傳云言堯可為百代常行之道也下莫胡反謨議也虞書臯陶失厥謨大禹成厥功作大禹皐陶謨孔傳云大禹謨九功皐陶謨九德也禹稱大大其功謨謀也）。

Canons and counsels (典謨: the upper character has the fanqie 多殄; the Erya says standard; in the Book of Yu, when about to abdicate the throne to Yu Shun, the Canon of Yao was made; Kong's commentary says it means Yao could serve as a constant path for a hundred generations; the lower character has the fanqie 莫胡; 謨 means deliberations; in the Book of Yu, when Gaoyao failed in his counsels, Yu the Great achieved his merits, and they made the Counsels of Yu the Great and Gaoyao; Kong's commentary says the Counsels of Yu the Great concern the nine achievements, and the Counsels of Gaoyao concern the nine virtues; Yu is called Great to magnify his merit; 謨 means plans).
