罄志（上苦定反爾雅曰罄盡也顧野王云器中空也下職吏反孫緬云念也意也誠也說文從心ㄓ聲也ㄓ音之案罄志謂空其心盡其誠也）。

罄志 (exhausting one's resolve: the first character is *k[ǔ]-d[ìng]* fan; the Erya states: “罄 [*qìng*] means entirely/exhaustively.” Gu Yewang states: “Empty within a vessel.” The second character is *zh[í]-l[ì]* fan; Sun Mian says: “Thought; intent; sincerity.” The Shuowen jiezi says it is classified under 心 [heart] with ㄓ phonetic; ㄓ is pronounced 之 [*zhī*]. Note: 'exhausting one's resolve' means emptying one's heart and exhausting one's sincerity).
