欻然（上許勿反切韻暴起也亦忽也字從炎吹省也下如延反字書云而也說文云從月音肉從犬從灬音摽灬火行皃犬逐其肉以然之會意字也）。

欻然 (The first character is pronounced with the fanqie *x-*, [xu], from 許 and 勿. The *Qieyun* states: 'To arise suddenly; also meaning abrupt.' The character takes 炎 with 吹 abbreviated. The second character is pronounced with the fanqie *r-*, [ran], from 如 and 延. The character books say: 'It means so/thus.' The *Shuowen* states: 'It takes 月, pronounced 肉 [flesh], 犬 [dog], and 灬, pronounced *b-*, [biao], where 灬 is the appearance of moving fire; a dog pursuing its meat so as to roast (然) it. It is an associative compound character.')
