袈裟（上音加下音沙梵語訛也具足應云迦邏沙曳此云染色或云壞色以西域俗人皆著白色衣故簡異之袈裟二字本非衣名不合從衣）。

袈裟 (The first character is pronounced like 加 [jia]. The second character is pronounced like 沙 [sha]. This is an inaccurate transliteration of the Sanskrit; in full it should be said as *kāṣāya*, translated here as 'dyed robe' or 'drab-colored robe'. Because secular people in the Western Regions all wear white clothes, this distinguishes them. The two characters 袈裟 were not originally the names of garments, so they should not properly be written with the 衣 [clothing] radical.)
