廣陿（下遐甲反禮記云廣則容姦陿則思欲考聲云陿隘也玉篇云迫隘也不廣也經文從犬作狹誤謬也乃是狹習字犬馬所以馴狹之又輕㑥也甚非廣陿義也有經作陜亦非乃陝州字陝音式染反即周書分陝之地是也）。

廣陿 (The second character is pronounced with the fanqie *x-*, [xia], from 遐 and 甲. The *Liji* states: 'If broad, it tolerates villainy; if narrow, it stirs desires.' The *Kaosheng* states: '陿 means confined.' The *Yupian* states: 'Cramped and confined; not broad.' Sūtra texts write it with 犬 as 狹, which is an error; that is the character *xia* for habituation (狹習), referring to dogs and horses being tamed and familiarized, and also meaning frivolous and careless; it by no means carries the sense of broad versus narrow (廣陿). Some sūtras write 陜, which is also incorrect, as that is the character for Shan Prefecture (陝州); 陝 is pronounced with the fanqie *sh-*, [shan], from 式 and 染, which is the land of the division of Shan in the *Book of Zhou*.)
