Nayuta (那庾多: the middle character is yáng + zhǔ [yǔ]; a Sanskrit term, also pronounced nayuta (那由他), a numeral in the Western Regions. According to the Huangdi suanjing, there are twenty-three numerals; from ten thousand (萬) onward, each has three tiers of counting: upper, middle, and lower. Namely: 萬 (myriad), 億, 兆, 京, 姟, 秭, 壤, 溝, 㵎, 正, and 載. In the lower counting system, each varies by tens; in the middle counting system, each varies by hundreds; in the upper counting system, each varies by myriads of myriads (squared). According to Huiyuan's Pronunciation and Meaning on the 'Asaṃkhyeya Chapter' of the Avataṃsaka-sūtra: one hundred lakṣas make one koṭi, which corresponds to Chinese yì (億); a koṭi of koṭis makes an ayuta, which corresponds to Chinese zhào (兆); an ayuta of ayutas makes a nayuta, which corresponds to Chinese jīng (京). The rest can all be determined by analogy).
