號泣（上胡刀反切韻哭也爾雅曰舞號雩也郭璞注云雩祭吁嗟請雨也說文作唬下去急反切韻哭泣也考聲云無聲出涕曰泣從水立聲也）。

號泣 (The first character is pronounced 胡 + 刀 fanqie. The Qieyun says: 'To wail.' The Erya says: 'Dancing and wailing constitutes the rain-sacrifice.' Guo Pu's commentary says: 'The rain-sacrifice involves sighing and pleading for rain.' The Shuowen jiezi gives the form 唬. The second character is pronounced 去 + 急 fanqie. The Qieyun says: 'To weep and sob.' The Kaosheng says: 'Shedding tears without making sound is called qi.' It takes 水 as semantic and 立 as phonetic).
