禦捍（上魚舉反爾雅曰禦圉禁也韻英云當也切韻示敵也說文亦禁也從示御聲也下胡幹反切韻云抵也又拒也從手旱聲也）。

Defend and protect (禦捍: the first character has the fanqie 魚舉 [yu + ju / yù]. The Erya says: "'禦' and '圉' mean to restrain." The Yunying says: "To withstand." The Qieyun says: "To face the enemy." The Shuowen also says: "To restrain; formed from 示 with 御 as the phonetic component." The second character has the fanqie 胡幹 [hu + gan / hàn]. The Qieyun says: "To resist; also to ward off; formed from 手 [hand] with 旱 as the phonetic component.")
