蚊虻 (for the first character, [wén], fanqie 勿汾 [m- + -ɨun = mɨun/wén]. The Shuowen writes it as 蟁; the Wu pronunciation is 閩. A flying insect that bites people. In the sūtra it is written with the vulgar character 蚉. For the second character, [méng], fanqie 莫耕 [m- + -æŋ = mˠæŋ/méng]. The Shenglei says: “Resembles a fly but larger.” The Shuowen says: “Generated by transformation in the grasses and blossoms of mountains and marshes; also born on deer bodies. Those large in form are called 虻; the small are called [虫*((天*天)/日)], pronounced 暫.)”
