Grasping the writing tablet (握槧: the second character has the two pronunciations *cai* + *gan* [= *cǎn*] and *qi* + *yan* [= *qiàn*]; the *Shiming* says *qian* is a wooden board two feet long; the *Yunquan* says it is a board used for writing records; the *Shuowen jiezi* says it is an unworked writing tablet, with the wood radical and the phonetic *zhan* [斬]; the *Jixun* says it refers to whittling a wooden board to record matters; it is also pronounced *qian* [僉]).
