䧫阬（上胡刀反又作濠說文云城池也字書云隍濠也律文從土作壕俗字無水曰隍有水曰濠下客庚反切韻阮壍也爾雅云阬虛也郭注云阬壍也律文作坭坑皆俗傳誤也）。

Háokēng (moat and trench) (the first character has the fanqie hú + dāo; also written as 濠. The Shuowen jiezi says: "A city moat." Dictionaries say: "A moat without water is huáng, with water is háo." The Vinaya text writes it with the "earth" radical as 壕, which is a popular character. Without water it is a huáng, with water it is a háo. The second character has the fanqie kè + gēng. The Qieyun says: "A steep trench." The Erya says: "Kēng means void." Guo's commentary says: "Kēng means trench." The Vinaya text writes it as 坭坑, both of which are popular scribal errors).
