Knowing and understanding (知諳: the first character is [pronounced with the] fanqie [initial and final of] 陟 and 离; the Qieyun says it means to perceive; the Kaosheng says to understand thoroughly; the Shuowen derives it from 'mouth' and the phonetic 'shǐ'. The second character is [pronounced with the] fanqie [initial and final of] 烏 and 含; the Yupian says 'ān' means to trust; the Yunying says to memorize; it takes the 'speech' radical and the phonetic 'yīn').
