匱乏（上求位反說文云竭也切韻云亦乏也下房法反說文云貧也亦匱也左傳云反正為乏也字不從之也）。

匱乏 (Destitute and lacking: for the first character, fanqie 求位 [kuì], the Shuowen says: 'Exhausted.' The Qieyun says: 'Also lacking.' For the second character, fanqie 房法 [fá], the Shuowen says: 'Poor; also lacking.' The Zuo Zhuan says: 'The reverse of 正 [upright] is 乏 [deficient].' The character does not derive from 之.)
