Yak (犛牛: the upper character has the fanqie 莫交; the Shuowen jiezi says it is the long-haired ox of the Southwestern Yi; we find that across sūtras and vinayas it is consistently written as the character 犛牛, as in "cherishing its tail like a yak"; the present Vinaya text writes 猫 [cat], which is the name of a beast that catches mice, and not what is intended here).
