Parrot (鸚鵡: the upper character has the fanqie 烏耕. The lower character is also written as 䳇; both forms have the same sound wǔ. The Shanhai jing says: "On Mount Huang there are birds with green feathers, red beaks, and human tongues, capable of human speech, called yīngwǔ." The Liji says: "The parrot can speak, yet does not cease to be a flying bird"; this is it. Both characters are phono-semantic characters).
