【達磨波羅】《西域記》云：「唐言護法。神負遠遁，因即出家。清辯論師，外示僧佉之服，內弘龍猛之學。聞護法菩薩在菩提樹，宣揚法教，乃命門人往問訊曰：『仰德虛心，為日久矣！然以宿願未果，遂乖禮謁。菩提樹者，誓不空見。見當有證，稱天人師。』護法菩薩謂其使曰：『人世如幻，身命若浮，未遑談議。』竟不會見。」

[Dharmapāla] The Record of the Western Regions says: "In the language of Tang, it is rendered Hufa ('Protector of Dharma'). With exceptional intellect he withdrew afar, and thereupon went forth as a monk. Master Bhāviveka externally wore the robes of a Sāṃkhya, while internally propagating the teachings of Nāgārjuna. Hearing that Bodhisattva Dharmapāla was at the Bodhi tree preaching the teachings of the Dharma, he ordered a disciple to go and inquire after him, saying: 'I have looked up to your virtue with an open mind for a long time! However, because my former vow has not yet been fulfilled, I have failed to pay my respects in person. As for the Bodhi tree, I vowed never to look upon it in vain; when I behold it, I must attain realization and be called a teacher of gods and humans.' Bodhisattva Dharmapāla said to his messenger: 'The human world is like an illusion, and bodily life is like a floating bubble; I have no leisure for discussions.' In the end, they did not meet."
