[Kṣaṇa] The Laṅkāvatāra says: "A time of non-abiding is called a kṣaṇa." The Abhidharmakośa says: "In the snap of a strong man's fingers, there are sixty-five kṣaṇas." The Benevolent King Sutra says: "Within one thought-moment, there are ninety kṣaṇas. In one kṣaṇa, nine hundred arisings and ceasings are experienced." The Abhidharma translates it as 'one thought-moment' (yinian). The Riguang [Sutra] says: "I now also state the reckoning of kṣaṇas: one thousand six hundred kṣaṇas make one kalā; sixty kalās make one muhūrta; thirty muhūrtas make one day and night." The Abhidharmakośa says: "The minimum of time is called a kṣaṇa; the maximum of time is called a kalpa." Broadly speaking, there are three minimum units in total. A verse of the Abhidharmakośa says: / "The paramāṇu, the syllable, and the kṣaṇa / Are the minima of form, name, and time." / The commentary explains: "Analyzing forms down to a single paramāṇu is the minimum of form. Analyzing names and time down to a single syllable and a single kṣaṇa is the minimum of name and the minimum of time."
