[Arī]: Some say: Because this land lacks it, it is not translated. The tree resembles an orchid; when its branches fall, they must split into seven parts. Yijing's translation of the *Mayūrī Sūtra* reads: 'Head split into seven parts, like an arjaka flower cluster.' He further explains himself: 'In Sanskrit it is called *arjaka-mañjarī*. *Arjaka* is holy basil; *mañjarī* is the head of the flower cluster. Old versions called it the branch of the *arī* tree. Being neither adept in the original sounds nor acquainted with the matter, this gave rise to long-standing confusion. However, upon inquiring in the West, there is originally no *arī* tree.'
