In Buddhism, the seven treasures are generally of two kinds: first, the seven kinds of precious treasures; second, the seven kinds of royal treasures. As for the seven kinds of precious treasures, four texts are briefly cited. The Fodi lun states: '1. Gold; 2. Silver; 3. Vaidūrya (lapis lazuli); 4. Sphaṭika (crystal); 5. Musāragalva, which corresponds to tridacna (giant clam); 6. Aśmagarbha, which corresponds to agate; 7. Red pearls.' The Amitāyus Sūtra states: 'Gold, silver, lapis lazuli, crystal, coral, agate, and tridacna.' The Hengshui jing states: 'Gold, silver, coral, genuine pearls, tridacna, bright-moon pearls, and maṇi jewels.' The Da zhidu lun states: 'There are seven kinds of treasures: gold, silver, vaidūrya, crystal, tridacna, agate, and red pearls.' Second, as for the seven kinds of royal treasures, the Jin translation of the Avataṃsaka Sūtra states: 'When the king attains the Way, in his main palace, surrounded by court ladies, the seven treasures arrive spontaneously: 1. The golden wheel treasure, named Victorious and Sovereign; 2. The elephant treasure, named Blue Mountain; 3. The dark-blue horse treasure, named Valiant Swift Wind; 4. The divine jewel treasure, named Cloud of Light-Treasury; 5. The treasury-master minister treasure, named Great Wealth; 6. The jade-woman treasure, named Pure and Wondrous Virtue; 7. The army-master minister treasure, named Eye Free from Defilement. Having obtained these seven treasures, he becomes a wheel-turning king in Jambudvīpa.'
