[Magadha] Here translated as 'Good and Superior', and also 'Without Distress'. The Record of the Western Regions says: "Magadha, formerly called Mojiatuo or Mojieti, both corrupt. It lies within the borders of Central India." The Wenju ji says: "Here translated as 'Non-harming'. From the beginning of the kalpa onward, there were no corporal punishments or injury there. When it came to Ajātaśatru, cutting off fingers was instituted as punishment; later, biting his own finger and feeling the pain, he brought an end to this punishment again. Because the Buddha was to be born in that land, auspicious omens were manifested in advance, which is why it was previously given the name Non-harming; it is also named Harmless." The Wenju says: "Here translated as 'Heavenly Snare'. Heavenly Snare was the name of a king; the country was named after the king, and the city was named Rājagṛha."
