[Gandharvanagara] The *Dazhidulun* says: “When the sun first rises, one sees city gates, watchtowers, and palaces, with travelers going in and out. As the sun rises higher, they progressively disappear; they can only be seen with the eyes, but have no reality. This is called a gandharva city (gandharvanagara).” Jingyuan's *Huayan yinyi* says: “In the Western Regions, musicians are called gandharvas. Those musicians often magically create city walls that return to normal in an instant; hence it is attributed to the manifestations of water dragons (*shen*).” The *Fuxing* says: “A gandharva city is commonly called a *shen* vapor. The *shen* is a large clam. Rising in the morning over ocean islands, viewed from afar it seems to exist, but viewed close up it is nothing.”
