【尼陀那】此云因緣。《妙玄》云：「修多羅中有人問故，為說是事。毘尼中有人犯是事，故結是戒。一切佛語緣起事，皆名因緣。」

[Nidāna] This translates as "causes and conditions." The Miaoxuan says: "Because someone asked a question in the sūtras, this matter was spoken for them. Because someone committed a transgression in the Vinaya, this precept was laid down. All matters concerning the conditioned origination of the Buddha's words are called causes and conditions (nidāna)."
