[Kāśyapa]: Here translated as Light Drinker (Yinguang). When the lifespan was twenty thousand years, he appeared and accomplished right awakening. When the lifespan reached one hundred years, Śākyamuni dwelt in Tuṣita Heaven and observed the world in four ways. Thus the Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa says: "First, he observed the time: human lifespan being one hundred years, the time for a Buddha to appear had arrived. Second, he observed the land and its states: [a Buddha] is always born in the central country. Third, he observed the clan and caste: the kṣatriya caste has great authority, while the brāhmaṇa caste has great wisdom; whichever was honoured by the world at the time, the Buddha was born among them. Fourth, he observed his place of birth: what woman would be capable of conceiving a bodhisattva with the strength of Nārāyaṇa while also being able to preserve her own pure precepts? Having observed thus, only the queen of King Śuddhodana in Kapilavastu in the central country was capable of conceiving the bodhisattva. Having reflected thus, he descended from Tuṣita Heaven, and without losing right wisdom, entered the maternal womb."
