[Vaiśeṣika (衛世師)] Properly *Vaiśeṣika* (鞞崽). This is translated as "insurpassable". Ulūka-Sāṃkhya posited that six [categories] pervade creation, but the visual faculty has an abundance of fire, up to the bodily faculty having an abundance of wind. The text is seen in the *Suvarṇasaptati*. The *Fuxing* says: "Ulūka-Sāṃkhya is translated here as 'Owl Ascetic' (Ulūka). That person hid in mountain valleys during the day to compose scriptures and treatises. At night he wandered about, expounding the teachings and converting people. Just like that bird [the owl], he obtained this name; he is also named Akṣapāda (Eye-Foot). That person appeared in the world eight hundred years before the Buddha, also attained the five supernormal knowledges, and expounded a treatise in one hundred thousand verses, named *Vaiśeṣika*."
