[Praśākhā]
Here translated as "stage of bodily form" (形位), having the forms of all sense faculties and the differentiation of the four limbs. The Kośa regards this fifth seven days in the womb as the end of the five stages in the womb; the sixth seven days is called the stage of hair, fur, nails, and teeth; the seventh seven days is called the stage of having complete faculties, because the five faculties are perfected. What is called "faculty" (indriya) is named so because it produces through preeminence (adhipati), for the five consciousnesses rely upon them as predominant conditions to be produced. Furthermore, possessing five meanings, they are called "faculties": because of adornment, continuation, reliance, manifestation, and universal distinction. From this fifth seven days until leaving the womb, they are all collectively termed the "six bases of entering" (ṣaḍāyatana). As for the term "womb" (胞胎), the Shuowen says: "When a child is born, the enclosing garment is called tai (胎)." The Erya says: "Tai means the beginning of nourishment."
