On the fifteenth day of the seventh month, each performs the pravāraṇā according to rule in their own dwelling, sending three persons to the monks upon whom they depend, merely to acknowledge the boundary limits; the rest follows the procedure for monks. (This conflicts with the bhikṣuṇī Vinaya; it was probably out of ignorance.) A bhikṣuṇī should receive the precepts thrice, making five hundred precepts. Only after a bhikṣuṇī has completed twelve rains is she fit to become a master. When first receiving the ten precepts, two female masters are sought, and a Vinaya-holding śramaṇa must be made to confer the precepts, and then she is entrusted to the female masters, who are ordered to instruct and guide her. Next, she receives the two hundred and fifty precepts; having completed twenty years of age, she simply has three female masters confer them. The deportment, bowing and rising, is no different from the ritual for a man receiving the precepts. (When a śikṣamāṇā receives the six dharmas, there are not three masters; a śrāmaṇera likewise has no three masters, but only two masters; saying that the six dharmas are two hundred and fifty is an erroneous transmission.) When one full year has passed after receiving the precepts without error or violation, she may then receive the [remaining] precepts. When the five hundred precepts are later received, there are three masters and ten monks, just as when received halfway through; the former Vinaya master simply confers another two hundred and fifty items, adding them to the former to make five hundred. They are simply conferred without interrogating the deportment in full detail as when received halfway through. The text of the precepts is like the men's precepts; in every matter it is identical, with no other difference. (In conferring the precepts, three nun masters and one Vinaya-holding bhikṣu are established; the platform for conferring precepts is beneath a four-column pavilion. That this says ten monks, and that the subsequent conferring does not examine details, conflicts with the ordination text, and its source is not yet clear.)
